South African Krugerrands were first issued in 1967, and they are legal tender.

The obverse side of the coin, designed by Otto Schultz, displays a bust of Paul Kruger--the last president of the Republic of South Africa. The reverse side, designed by Coert Steynberg, displays a picture of a springbok, a type of South African gazelle.

The edge of the coins are reeded. The purity of the coins are 22 Karat and the fineness is 916.7.
